SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A career-high .500 hitting percentage from Lindsay McCabe was not enough to stop the Bluejay momentum as the Orange fell to tournament host, Creighton in three sets (19-21, 20-25, 13-25).
McCabe connected on 7-of-12 attempts, while Samantha Hinz connected on 2-of-6, adding two blocks. Freshman Silvi Uattara made her collegiate debut, adding three kills, three digs and one block.
The Orange battled back and forth early in the first set, tying the game at 14-14, before the Bluejays pulled away by as much as five points to take the set.
Looking to rebound after trailing the Bluejays for most of the second frame, SU went on a short run at the end of the set, as Emily Betteridge closed in on Creighton's 4-point lead with a service ace. The Orange could not recover quickly enough to regain control, falling in the second and third sets.
Leah McNary led the Bluejay offense with 12 kills, while Brooke Boggs and Kate Elman led the defense with double-digit digs.
Syracuse is back in action tomorrow morning taking on Denver at 10 a.m., before closing out the weekend against No. 21 Kansas State at 5:30 p.m.
