SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Head coach Doug Marrone's coaching career is about to come full circle at New York's College Classic. When Syracuse hosts USC at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8th, the Bronx, N.Y. native will be coaching only 15 miles away from where he grew up and returning to the Meadowlands region where he served as a coach for the New York Jets (2002-05). Tickets and travel packages for the game are available at nycollegeclassic.com.
"Our games in MetLife Stadium will provide a great opportunity for alumni in the tri-state area to attend games with family and friends and for our fans in Central New York to take family and friends to New York City for a nice weekend that includes Syracuse football," Marrone said.
Another unique opportunity that N.Y.'s College Classic presents for Marrone is that it will be the second time he has coached his Syracuse in a professional arena. The first was when he led his team to a 36-34 victory against Kansas State in the 2010 Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
Marrone joins a number of his players who have the chance to play closer to home when the team travels to MetLife Stadium. Assistant head coach John Anselmo, a Freeport, N.Y. native, will also coach close to his hometown. New York's College Team will look to improve upon its 5-3 record in the Meadowlands region.
"MetLife Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that provides a special experience for our student-athletes," Marrone said. "For our team to play there on a regular basis in the coming years will greatly enhance to the profile of our program and the University."
The Orange begin the 2012 season at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 1st when it hosts Northwestern (12 p.m., ESPN2). Season and individual game tickets are available online, in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B), or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX.
