SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The final piece of the LED video boards and 360-ribbon display were added this afternoon to the Carrier Dome, completing the installation. All fans attending events at the Dome will enjoy an in-game experience like never before beginning at the Orange home opener against Northwestern on Sept. 1st (12 p.m., ESPN2). Season and individual game tickets are available online, in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B), or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX.
"It is unbelievable," said Senior Associate Athletics Director and Carrier Dome Managing Director Pete Sala. "You don't realize how big the new board is until you have the old board on. It is so different. There's so much more space there. As you can see from the layout and the last piece they're putting up there, we just have so many more options. These boards are 100 percent addressable."
The new system will feature several indoor LED video displays and a 360-degree ribbon display installed along the upper fascia of the Dome. They will add an explosion of color to the game atmosphere with video displayed in a high definition (HD) format. The new integrated system, designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D., will be operational by August.
"You'll see score boards at different times and different locations," Sala said. "We replaced the play clock. We replaced the time and temperature clocks. We put a brand new 4x10 board in each corner where we used to have a static panel. We'll be able to roll those."
The end zones will feature large video displays measuring nearly 21 feet high by more than 40 feet wide. Each of these displays will be flanked by two other displays, measuring more than 12 feet high by 10 feet wide. These displays all utilize Daktronics 20 millimeter pixel spacing. Capable of showing one large image or being divided into separate windows, the video displays will show live and recorded video, up-to-the-minute stats, crowd-pleasing graphics and animations and sponsor information.
Venue upgrade will not be limited to the Carrier Dome. As part of a campus-wide initiative to bring technology to the SU athletics facilities, several venues will have new scoreboards installed. A new scoreboard and message display will be installed at the SU Soccer Stadium, while the volleyball team's home court at the Women's Building will also get a new message display, scoreboard and statistical displays. Coyne Field, the home of SU field hockey, the SU Softball Stadium and Tennity Ice Pavilion, home of the Orange ice hockey squad, will also have new Daktronics scoreboards installed.
Also available are tickets and travel packages for New York's College Classic when Syracuse hosts USC at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8th. Visit nycollegeclassic.com for more information.
