SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange volleyball squad opened up the first game of the Blue and White Classic with a win over Hartford, defeating the Hawks 3-0 (21-19, 25-16, 25-15) in Buffalo, N.Y.

Junior Amanda Kullman recorded her first career start for the Orange, dishing out a career-high 28 assists, four digs and a career-high three blocks.

SU allowed Hartford just one block across all three sets. Nicolette Serratore led the offense with nine kills, while BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Silvi Uattara tallied seven kills on 16 swings. Andrea Fisher and Gosia Wlaszczuk notched five kills a piece.

Samantha Hinz stepped up to the net, leading the defense with a team-high eight blocks, while Monika Salkute added five blocks in the Orange victory.

Sophomore Sareeta Nethersole recorded 12 kills and 10 digs for the Hawks, but her double-double performance was not enough to propel the Hawks over the Orange.

Syracuse is back in action tomorrow taking on Dartmouth and 2:30 p.m. before closing out the weekend against tournament host, Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
