BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball squad (7-6) split the second day of the Blue and White Classic with a win over Dartmouth (1-8) and a loss to tournament host, Buffalo (6-6) in the final match of the evening. Freshman Silvi Uattara earned her second All- Tournament Team honors of the season, while Melina Violas earned her first-ever All-Tournament Team honors, after both were selected for their performances this weekend.
"I think we played really hard this weekend but we need to continue to strengthen our focus on a strong performance by building a disciplined culture and we need to work on learning how to finish a set," said assistant coach, Stephanie Cantway.
Syracuse opened the first match of the day with a win over Dartmouth, but dropped the first set to the Big Green 17-25. Rebounding, the Orange rallied in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set. Holding Dartmouth to just ten kills, SU wrapped up the match with a 25-13 win in the final set. The Orange are now 3-0 in four set matches.

Gosia Wlaszczuk earned her first career start, dishing out a career-high 31 assists, notching six kills on ten swings. Wlaszczuk also recorded seven digs and two blocks
.
Freshman Monika Salkute led the Orange at the net, posting a career-high eight blocks, including one solo block. Fisher and Samantha Hinz added six blocks a piece.
In the second match of the day, Uattara returned to the head of the offense, recording another 16 kills against Buffalo, but it wasn't enough for the Orange to pull off a win. Clarey tallied eight kills, while Melina Violas and Nicolette Serratore combined for 25 of the team's 47 digs.
After falling to the Bulls 28-30 in the first set, SU could not return to tie the match in the second set, giving Buffalo at 2-0 advantage heading into the third set. Unable to put a stop to the Bulls' momentum, the Orange lost 22-25 in the deciding third set. Dana Musil led the Bulls with 19 kills, while Liz Scott added 10 kills and nine digs.
Syracuse Orange volleyball will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the regular season home-opener. The Orange will host the Binghamton Bearcats at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building.
