After four straight games with at least 100 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Marcus Sales has earned his way on to the 2012 Biletnikoff Award Watch List. The annual award recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football and is sponsored by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. Sales joins fellow Syracuse wide receiver Alec Lemon on the watch list.
Â
Not only did Sales record his fourth straight game with at least 100 yards receiving against Stony Brook, he extended his streak to four consecutive games with a touchdown. Sales leads the Orange receiving corps so far this season with 25 catches for 350 yards and four touchdowns. Sales' 350 season receiving yards ranks fourth nationally, while his 116.7 receiving yards per game and 8.3 receptions per game leads the BIG EAST.
Â
His 12 career touchdown receptions tie him with Mike Siano for eighth on SU's all-time list.
Â
Sales did not play in any games in 2011 but in 2010, he caught 26 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns, including five receptions for 172 yards and three touchdowns in SU's New Era Pinstripe Bowl victory against Kansas State.
Â
The award is named after Fred Biletnikoff, an All-Pro receiver with the Oakland Raiders and an All-America receiver at Florida State University. Biletnikoff is also a member of the pro and college football halls of fame. The recipient of the Biletnikoff Award is chosen by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee which is a group of over 180 prominent football journalists, commentators, and receivers. The award winner will be honored at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Â
Syracuse travels to Minnesota Saturday, Sept. 22nd at 8 p.m. (BTN).
