DURHAM, N.H. - Alyssa Manley's first collegiate goal came at just the right time for the No. 2 Syracuse field hockey team as the freshman scored with just 54 seconds remaining to give the Orange (4-0) a 3-2 victory at No. 24 New Hampshire (1-3) on Friday.
Gillian Pinder and Lauren Brooks also scored goals for Syracuse as it remained undefeated on the season.
Emma Russell, who scored the overtime game-winner against then-No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday, initiated the winning goal again on Friday. The freshman dribbled the ball up the right side of the field before finding her fellow freshman, Manley, in front for the tiebreaking goal.
Syracuse trailed 2-1 late in the second half when Brooks tied the game in the 65th minute. Senior Iona Holloway passed from the right side of the circle, finding the sophomore forward for her third goal of the season, making it 2-2 with 5:48 remaining.
The Orange led early on when another member of Ange Bradley's talented fresh freshmen class, Gillian Pinder, scored her third goal of the season in the ninth minute. The native of Dublin, Ireland dribbled into the circle from the left side and scored far side 8:25 into the game.
UNH tied it up just over minute after Pinder's goal when Meg Flatley snuck a shot past Orange goalkeeper Leann Stiver off a Hannah Richard assist.
After the teams went into halftime tied, 1-1, Megan Bozek gave the Wildcats the lead in the 46th minute with a shot off a penalty corner that bounced in.
Syracuse controlled the game statistically throughout, outshooting UNH, 18-5, including a 12-2 advantage in the opening half, and outcornering the Wildcats, 9-4, but UNH goalie Carlie Tarbell made nine saves to keep her club in the contest.
The Orange wraps up its New England road trip on Sunday when it faces No. 12 Boston University (4-0) at Harvard's Jordan Field in an 11 a.m. start.
