
Lindsay McCabe and Silvi Uattara both earned All-Tournament Honors
Orange Volleyball Tops No. 18 Iowa State in Five Set Thriller

AMES, Iowa – The Syracuse Volleyball squad (5-5) defeated No. 18 Iowa State (5-4) 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 25-22,19-25,16-14) in the final day of the Iowa State Tournament in Ames, Iowa. Freshman Silvi Uattara led the team with a career-high 25 kills, while Nicolette Serratore added 14 kills and 14 digs in her second double-double performance of the season.
"There was really a phenomenal team effort tonight and everyone stepped up and filled their role when we needed them" said assistant coach, Stephanie Cantway.
Sophomore setter, Emily Betteridge recorded her second double-double of the weekend, dishing out 52 assists and 13 digs, after posting 49 assists and 11 digs last night against Iowa.
After taking the first set 25-21, SU dropped the second match to the Cyclones 22-25. The Orange shined in the third set, capitalizing on 10 Iowa State errors to regain the lead. A hiccup in the fourth set retied the match at 2-2. The Orange fought back and forth with the Cyclones in the deciding fifth set before a pair of kills and a service ace from Uttara gave SU the win.
Serratore also led the team in blocks, tallying six, while Lindsay McCabe, Samantha Hinz and Monika Salkute all added five apiece. Both McCabe and Uattara were named to the All-Tournament Team for their team-high efforts. This is the first Orange victory over a ranked team in the 2012 campaign.
Syracuse will head back out on the road next weekend to compete in the Blue and White Classic held in Buffalo, N.Y. The Orange will face Hartford on Friday, Sept. 14, before returning to take on Dartmouth and tournament host, Buffalo on Saturday, Sept. 15 to close out the weekend.
