There will be plenty of Orange in the AFC Championship game this weekend, when the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots match up on Sunday. The six alums that are featured between the two teams ties Syracuse for fourth on the list of schools with the most alum on that are playing in both the AFC/NFC Championship Games. This guarantees that there will be at least two Orange alums playing in Super Bowl XLVII.
Â
There is another unique story line in the AFC Championship game. The Jones brothers will meet on the gridiron once again. Defensive tackle Arthur Jones and the Ravens travel to New England to face rookie defensive end Chandler Jones and the Patriots. Â This will be the second time this season that the two will face each other after the two teams met during week three and the Ravens narrowly defeated the Patriots, 31-30.
Arthur recorded two tackles, including one solo, during
Baltimore's 38-35 win at Denver. Joining Jones on the Ravens is Syracuse alum, Jameel McClain. McClain was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 22nd.
Â
The Patriots boosts three active SU alums, the most out of all of the NFL teams this season, and features former Orange, Tony Fiammetta, who was granted roster exemption prior to this season. Chandler started in his first career postseason game in the 41-28 win against Houston and recorded two tackles, including one solo tackle. Strong safety Steve Gregory had a team-high 10 tackles, including six solo, and defended a pass against Houston. Cornerback Will Allen was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 27.
