SU Wraps up Competition at Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, NY - The Syracuse track and field team competed at the Cornell Upstate Challenge today, and both the men's and women's team placed fourth overall. Sophomore Donald Pollitt won the 60 hurdles with a time of 7.97, which was a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time. Junior Molly Malone won the 800-m race with a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying time of 2:14.98. Junior Sa'De Lewis claimed the 60-m hurdles title with a time of 8.66.
In the 60-m finals, Syracuse finished second and third with junior Jaquan Holland recording a time of 6.89 and sophomore Jihaad Howard notching a time of 6.90. Both of their times were BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying times. Junior Nathaniel Mercer came in sixth after running a 7.05 race while junior Colin Reno finished right behind him in seventh (7.16).
Senior Andrew Nelson placed third in the 1000m race, after recording a time of 2:31.45. In the mile, sophomore Andrew Bennison came in second (4:14.35) while senior Jon Aziz came in fifth (4:19.45) Sophomore David Wilson competed in the 3000m run and came in eighth place with a time of 8:49.63.
Amadou Gueye finished in second in the 60 hurdles with a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time of 8.06. In the high jump, freshman Jabari Butler's jump of 1.94 meters was good for seventh place.
On the women's side, junior Ashley Keyes came in second during the 60-m dash with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 7.70. Sophomore Sabrina Cammock finished in fifth with a time of 7.85. In the 400-m dash, freshman Rebecca Robinson finished with a time of 58.85.
Freshman Karina Ernst finished in second with a time of 2:17.40. Junior Julissa Wilson's time of 2:21.23 had her in fourth place and freshman Elizabeth Reynolds finished in sixth (2:23.82). In the mile, Beth Wright finished in second (5:03), Brenna Symoniak finished in fifth (5:06), Margo Malone came in sixth (5:07), Maura Linde came in eighth( 5:11), Angelica Peck finished in ninth (5:12) and Bridget Twomey (5:42) came in 12th.
In the 3000-m race, Kimberly Spano finished in seventh (10:28), while Katie Kinkead (10:29) and Rebecca Skodis (11:08) finished in eighth and ninth, respectively. In the pentathlon, senior Erica Belanger came in third with a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 2757.
The Orange travel to the Penn State National Open on Friday, Jan. 25th.
