A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse posted its second consecutive come-from-behind victory in a 57-55 win against No. 21/20 Cincinnati on Monday, Jan. 21 in the Carrier Dome. The Orange trailed by three with 1:30 to play, but tallied the final five points of the game to extend its home winning streak to 35 straight games.
SU led by as many as seven in the first half and took a 22-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Bearcats quickly went ahead in the second half and led 51-44 with 5:08 to play. Two straight baskets by senior Brandon Triche, a dunk by freshman Jerami Grant and jumper by sophomore Michael Carter-Williams brought the Orange within two at 54-52 at the 2:03 mark.
Cheikh Mbodj went 1-for-2 from the free throw line to put Cincinnati up by three, but Carter-Williams answered with a three-pointer with 1:21 on the clock to tie the game at 55-55. Junior C.J. Fair recorded a steal with 45 seconds left to give the Orange possession. Grant missed a jumper, but Fair tipped in the rebound with 13 seconds remaining to give SU a 57-55 lead.
Cashmere Wright missed on a three-point attempt and junior Baye Moussa-Keita grabbed the rebound. Cincinnati committed three straight fouls to go over the limit and send Triche to the line with two seconds on the clock.
