MCW and the Orange remain solid

Sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams still sits atop the national rankings in assist average, as announced by the NCAA on January 7. He is averaging 9.8 per game, following his eighth double-double of the season in the Orange victory against Rutgers, where he tallied 12 points and 10 assists.

Syracuse also remains seventh in the national rankings for the second straight week in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press poll, which were both announced this afternoon.

The Orange went 2-0 this past week, claiming a pair of conference victories against Rutgers (78-53) and USF (55-44). SU will hit the road this weekend to take on Providence (Wednesday, 7 p.m., BIG EAST Networks/SNY/Time Warner Cable) before returning home to meet Villanova in the Carrier Dome (Saturday, 12 p.m., ESPNU).
