Syracuse opens the 2026-27 season on Monday, Nov. 2, against New Haven at 7 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. It is the first regular-season game of the Gerry McNamara era and the first meeting between the programs. The Orange earned two wins during the exhibition slate, with victories over Siena (81-76) and Niagara (71-58).
THE GMAC ERA BEGINS
Monday marks the first regular-season game for Gerry McNamara as Syracuse's head coach. McNamara played at Syracuse from 2002-06 and was a guard on the 2003 national championship team. McNamara returns to campus after two seasons as head coach at Siena. He won the 2026 MAAC Tournament and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2010. Junior guard Gavin Doty was the MVP of that MAAC Tournament and followed McNamara to Syracuse.
LEADING THE WAY
Doty led Syracuse in the exhibitions with 39 points (13.0 per game). He averaged 7.0 rebounds, including a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double against Niagara, and went 13-of-14 (.929) at the free-throw line through the three exhibition tilts. Junior center Luke Wilson led the team with 22 rebounds (7.3 per game), 10 of them offensive, and had five blocks. Sophomore forward Sadiq White Jr. scored 28 points (9.3 per game) and shot .524 (11-of-21) from the field. Amarri Monroe scored 25 points and made 10 of 11 free throws.
RUNNING THE OFFENSE
Freshman guard Ryan Moesch led Syracuse with 16 assists (5.3 per game) against five turnovers. He had at least five assists in each exhibition and also led the team with five steals. As a team, Syracuse totaled 32 assists on 67 made field goals.
BENCH PRODUCTION
Syracuse got 90 bench points (30.0 per game) in the exhibitions, with 29 or more in each game. Thirteen different players saw action, and 10 or more players played in every exhibition game.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
New Haven opens its second season in the NEC after a 14-17 finish, a 9-9 league record and fifth place in the conference. The Chargers won four of their last six games. Head coach Ted Hotaling is in his 17th season at New Haven and has a 232-201 record, with five NCAA Tournament appearances. Kheni Briggs returns for New Haven, averaging 6.9 points and 1.2 assists a year ago.Â
