CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Syracuse men's rowing continued its fall schedule on Sunday, finishing 24th out of 32 boats in the champ eight at the Head of the Charles.
Head coach Dave Reischman's crew, stroked by senior captain Jake Martens, covered the three-mile head course in a time of 15:45.098 in the event open to both collegiate and post-collegiate club rowers.
2011 Syracuse alum Mike Gennaro helped row the USRowing crew to a second-place finish in the champ eight, finishing in 14:42.653, a second and a half behind the winning OTC Amsterdam crew and ahead of Harvard's third-place boat.
The Head of the Charles, the world's largest two-day rowing event, was first held on October 16, 1965. "Head" races, a class of regattas, are generally three miles long-boats race against each other and the clock, starting sequentially approximately fifteen seconds apart. Winners of each race receive the honorary title of "Head of the River" or, in this case, "Head of the Charles." The regatta will feature over 9,000 prominent athletes over the two-day competition in Cambridge, Mass.
