SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse returns from a two-game road trip for its final home game of 2014 against Maryland on Thursday, Oct. 24. Opening kick at the SU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
Syracuse (7-9-1, 3-7-1) is coming off a double overtime victory against North Carolina State and looks to continue its final push toward postseason play. The Orange will have to win its remaining two games to be eligible. Maryland (8-8-0, 4-6-0) split a pair of road games last weekend, losing at Duke before defeating Miami.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Maryland will play for the first time on the soccer pitch on Thursday.
PROTECTING THE NET
Thursday's match up will feature a goaltending battle between two outstanding ACC goalkeepers, SU's Brittany Anghel (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Maryland's Rachelle Beanlands. Both goalies, along with Notre Dame's Kaela Little, are currently tied for sixth place in shutouts in the ACC statistical rankings with four this season. The goaltenders have exceled in protecting the net as Anghel is ranked third with 69 saves and Beanlands is close behind in sixth place with 55 saves.
