SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Karlee Farr scored three goals and Sarah Kerly added two to lead No. 5 Syracuse field hockey (10-1) to a 8-1 victory vs. Monmouth (3-7) on Sunday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The season-high offensive output extended the Orange's home winning streak to 41-straight games, dating back to 2009.
Â
In a game that Syracuse dominating throughout, outshooting the Hawks, 32-5, the hat trick for the freshman Farr came one day after Leonie Geyer recorded one in the Orange's 4-1 win vs. No. 4 Virginia, giving SU three three-goal games by three different players. Lauren Brooks had a hat trick vs. Kent State on Sept. 8.
Â
Kerly, a graduate student from England, had her breakout game as well with an assist to go with her two goals. Geyer remained red-hot, contributing a goal and three assists, giving her 30 points on 10 goals and 10 assists on the season, all team-highs. Emma Russell had one goal and one assist, while freshman Liz Sack scored the first goal of her career.
Â
It was the most goals scored by the Orange since it beat Monmouth by an identical 8-1 score to open last season on Aug. 24, 2012 in New Jersey.
Â
Farr started the scoring 8:57 in on a tip-in of a crossing pass from Russell, who found the back of the net at the 24-minute mark on a redirection play from Geyer on a penalty corner, making it 2-0.
Â
Geyer netted her 10th of the year and 33rd of her career in the 29th minute on a penalty corner play that was assisted by fellow German Laura Hahnefeldt. Geyer then assisted on the next two SU goals, both scored by Farr, 43 seconds before halftime to make it 4-0, and 2:57 into the second half, making it a five-goal lead.
Â
Kerly netted her second of the year in the 51st minute off a rebound in front of the goal, and after Monmouth got on the board in the 52nd minute when a shot from outside the circle deflected in off an SU defender for an own goal, Kerly redirected a nifty Jordan Page pass for her third of the season, making it 7-1.
Â
Sack closed the scoring when she found the back of the net for the first time at Syracuse, tipping in a Kerly pass that came from outside the circle with 3:35 left.
Â
Sophomore Jess Jecko made two saves in 51:54 in goal for the Orange before being relieved by freshman Rebecca Congel for the final 18:06. Hawks' goalie Amanda Westerweller made 13 stops.
Geyer's five points gave her 11 for the weekend, running her career total to 105, making her the fourth player in Syracuse history to reach triple digits, joining Martina Loncarica (139), Maggie Befort (120) and Lindsey Conrad (112).
Â
