HOUSTON -- Syracuse arrived in the Lone Star State for the Texas Bowl Monday and the team was met with pom poms and plenty of orange at its bowl headquarters -- the Hyatt Regency Houston.
The Orange takes on Minnesota in this year's Texas Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. in Reliant Stadium.
Â
The team is already getting ready for its first event of the week, the 'Rodeo Bowl', where both Syracuse and Minnesota will compete some Texas-style tasks to get familiar with Houston's culture. Check SUathletics.com later tonight for a recap of the event including video footage of the team's 'rodeo'.
Â
The Texas Bowl will be covered in orange thanks to Sean Keeley of NunesMagician.com, who raised more than $46,000 from contributions from Syracuse fans to send kids from the Houston area to the bowl game. The funds are enough to send nearly 1,500 area children, who all will be decked out in orange, to see Syracuse take on the Gophers Friday.
Â
"This is a great opportunity and what a great idea by Sean Keeley," SU head coach Scott Shafer said. "I'm so grateful for everyone who jumped on that bandwagon and made this possible for us. So many kids are going to be able to go to the bowl game."
Tickets and travel packages for the 2013 Texas Bowl are still available at SUAthletics.com/bowlcentral.
