NEW YORK – No. 19/20 Syracuse (24-8) is back in action today at 2 p.m. when it takes on No. 17/19 Pittsburgh (24-7) in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. Tipoff at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 2 p.m.

FIRST-ROUND REWIND
Syracuse advanced to the quarterfinals with a 75-63 victory against Seton Hall in the second round. The Orange fell behind by 10 points early, but came back to record its 48th tournament win.
Senior James Southerland led SU with 20 points, marking the ninth consecutive game in which he has reached double figures in scoring. Sophomore Michael Carter-Williams tied the BIG EAST Tournament record with 14 assists. It marked the 11th time this season that he has reached double figures in assists.
The Orange trailed by 10 in the first half but fought back and went into the locker room tied 34-34 at intermission. Syracuse took its first lead of the game 15 seconds into the second half and built a seven-point advantage at 53-46.
The Pirates wouldn't go away and again tied the score at 46-46. Syracuse responded with a 19-2 scoring run to take control of the game. Senior Brandon Triche scored seven points during the run and junior C.J. Fair added six.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Pittsburgh is making its first appearance in this year's BIG EAST Tournament. The Panthers earned a double-bye by finishing fourth in the regular-season standings with a 12-6 mark in league play this season.
Tray Woodall, a third-team All-BIG EAST selection, leads a balanced Pitt offense, averaging 11.7 points per game. He also has dished out a team-best 163 assists and posted 41 steals. Steven Adams is the Panthers' leading rebounder (6.2 rpg.) and shot blocked (62). He was named to the league's All-Rookie team.
Jamie Dixon is in his 14th year at Pittsburgh and 10th as its head coach. During his tenure, he has guided the Panthers to three BIG EAST championships and earned four national coach of the year awards.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series with Pittsburgh, 62-39. The Panthers defeated the Orange, 65-55, earlier this season in Pittsburgh.
