Young Nabs BIG EAST Honor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse sophomore defenseman Sean Young was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career Monday, March 18. Young was rewarded for his performance in SU's 13-8 victory over rival Johns Hopkins this past weekend.

Young made his Orange debut, starting on close defense versus the Blue Jays. He picked up one ground ball and held JHU attackman Brandon Benn to just three shots and one goal (which came off a rebound in front of the cage). Benn had entered the game ranked eighth nationally at 3.6 goals per contest.

St. John's Kieran McArdle earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after setting a Red Storm record with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in a 20-13 victory against Rutgers.

Reilly O'Connor (Georgetown), Sean Rogers (Notre Dame), Andrew Barton (Providence), Jeff Lowman (St. John's) and John LoCascio (Villanova) were selected to the conference's weekly honor roll.

Syracuse returns to action Tuesday, March 19 when it faces Providence on the road at 7 p.m.
