Goes Trophy History
The Goes Trophy has been contested by the Orange, Big Red and Midshipmen since 1956. It was created by Clifford "Tip" Goes, SU Class of 1914, in 1955 to honor coaches James Ten Eyck of Syracuse, Charles Courtney of Cornell and Richard Glendon of Navy. Goes coxed the Syracuse varsity eight that won the IRA Regatta in 1913.
Syracuse has won the Goes 11 times, including four of the last seven years and three in a row from 2006-2008. The Orange's last win came in 2011 in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell has won 21 times, the last being in 2010, while Navy has won 25 times, breaking a six-year drought with last year's victory on Onondaga Lake.
Last season, on April 14, No. 7 Navy won a fast and close race for the Goes Trophy in a time of 5:48.3, while Cornell finished second in 5:50.2 and the Orange third in 5:52.0. SU logged a second-place finish behind Cornell in the 2V8 and third-place finishes in the frosh eight and second frosh eight.
In the Polls

The Orange is coming off second-place finishes across the board in the its spring opener at Princeton against the Tigers and Georgetown on March 30 on Lake Carnegie.
Princeton rowed to victory in all four races, while the Orange finished second in all four and Georgetown was third in all three of the races it had entries.
