The Syracuse football team held its ninth session of spring practice this afternoon in front of fans at the Carrier Dome. The Orange completed drills and scrimmaged. Following practice, head coach Scott Shafer opened up his statement to the media by showing support for the Syracuse men's basketball team who advanced to the Final Four before falling to Michigan in the national semifinal game last night.
"What a great season for Coach Boeheim and the basketball team," Shafer said. "When you get to that Final Four, it's a special thing. The coaches are frustrated and the kids are frustrated because they want to win it all. I'm just really proud of the way the kids played for Coach Boeheim this year and really turned it on the second half of the season. They were fun to watch. I just want to say congratulations to that basketball team and Coach Boeheim for a great season."
Fans are welcome to attend another open practice on Sunday, April 14, as Syracuse prepares for its annual Spring game. The Spring game will be held on Saturday, April 20 at the Carrier Dome (12 pm).
"We had a tough three or four days here," Shafer said. "We had good practice on Friday and we really worked the kids hard. Then we came back and really worked them today. We had 94 scrimmage plays not counting some of the penalties. That's almost 100 reps."
All fans are invited to join 'Orangenation Rising,' a state of mind where passion, tradition and die-hard loyalty intersect, by renewing their season tickets TODAY 3 or reserving new 2013 season tickets with a $25 deposit. Fans can use the internet (SUAthletics.com), telephone (888-DOME-TIX), or visit the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). Season tickets start at just $99 each.
"There were some good things and some bad things and we have a lot of things to work on," Shafer said. "I saw some promise out of some of the young running backs. At the same time we have to do a better job of protecting the football at the collegiate level. It's a little different from what they had in high school. I saw some good things."
