
Macartney and Petersen Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Junior Peter Macartney (Evergreen, Colo.) of the men's lacrosse team and junior Jessie Petersen (Carlmont, Calif.) of the women's track and field team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the Week of April 8th.
Macartney is a defensive midfielder for the Orange. He has seen action in every game so far this season, tallying 10 ground balls. In the Orange's 13-12 win against No. 8 Princeton, Macartney and fellow defensive midfielder, Matt Harris, held Princeton All-American midfielder, Tom Schreiber, to one goal on the day. Â Last season, he had one goal and 15 ground balls in 11 games. Â Macartney is majoring in accounting and finance in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. He was a member of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Teams and named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.
Petersen is a member of both the track and field team and the cross country team. Petersen set her PR in the 5000m in the first outdoor meet of the season at the Stanford invitational with a time of 16:25.92. In the indoor season, Petersen took second place in the Cornell Kane Invitational with a PR time of 9:43.41. She is majoring in health and education science in in the School of Education. Petersen was named to the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team and has made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.
Macartney and the men's lacrosse team host Cornell, Wednesday April 10 at 6 p.m. and Rutgers on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. Petersen and the track and field team travel to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 19th.
