Syracuse football student-athletes Carl Cutler, James Jarrett, Ryan Nassib and Dan Vaughan are the newest Orange representatives in the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, which recognizes college football student-athletes who maintain a 3.2 grade point average or better. The four Syracuse honorees are part of a group of 703 college football student-athletes from 259 schools to qualify for membership in the society.
Cutler, Jarrett, Nassib and Vaughan increase Syracuse's membership to 16. The Orange contingent includes Dowayne Davis (2008), Ryan Durand, Jake Flaherty, Ryan Howard and Benjamin Maljovec (2009), and James McKenzie, Roberto Nieves and Andrew Robinson (2010), Ryan Bartholomew and Derrell Smith (2011), and Torrey Ball and Kevyn Scott (2012) who have been inducted in previous years.
A 2010 and 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic selection, Cutler played in all 12 games as a sophomore, including two starts. He missed 2010 and 2011 seasons due to a knee injury, but returned to play in all 13 games in 2012.
Jarrett earned BIG EAST All-Academic honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll six times. He made the team as a walk-on prior to the 2009 season.
A three-year starter at quarterback, Nassib is a 2012 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. He graduated in May from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in May with a dual undergraduate degree in finance and managerial accounting and is currently pursuing his Master's degree in accounting. A four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team honoree, Nassib has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Whitman School of Management Dean's List every year. He interned at a local investment firm during two summers at Syracuse.
On the field, the 2012 Pro Football Weekly All-American leaves a legacy at Syracuse. A 2012 team captain, Nassib owns the BIG EAST and Syracuse career record for completions and Orange records for completions in a game, consecutive games with a touchdown pass (11), passing yards in a game (vs. Northwestern), season and career, passing touchdowns in a season and total offense in a game (vs. Northwestern) and a season. He earned an invitation to the 2013 Senior Bowl. In April, he was selected in the fourth round of the National Football League Draft by the New York Giants.
A four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, Vaughan played in all 50 games in his Syracuse career, including 11 starts. In 2011, he recorded a career-high 15 tackles against Rutgers. A three-year letter winner, Vaughan led Syracuse's 2012 kickoff coverage unit that ranked second nationally and led the BIG EAST. Vaughan earned undergraduate degrees in finance from the Whitman School of Management and currently working toward Master's degree in television, radio and film at the Newhouse School of Public Communications
