Waiters Shines In Cavs Round 2 Win

Former Orange guard Dion Waiters exploded for a game-high 27 points and the seventh-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 72-66, in Summer League action on July 18.
Waiters shot 12-of-23 from the floor and added six rebounds on the defensive end. Through four games, he is 10th in scoring at 17.3 points per game, and averaging four rebounds and three assists per game in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League. With the win, the Cavs move on to the quarterfinals where they will meet the 18th-seeded Miami Heat on July 20.
A number of other former SU stars were also in action on Thursday night. Brandon Triche and the fifth-seeded Charlotte Bobcats took down Donte Greene and the Memphis Grizzlies, 92-84. Triche played just over 12 minutes off the bench, scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting, while dishing out four assists and grabbing two boards. In a losing effort, Greene recorded 15 points, six assists and two rebounds. Over his final three games, the forward averaged 16.3 points per outing.
Arinze Onuaku put up another solid performance to help the third-seeded Phoenix Suns stay perfect (4-0) in a 92-84 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The Suns advanced to the quarterfinal round. Onuaku corralled eight rebounds, went 3-of-5 for six points and blocked a pair of shots. In four games, Onuaku is averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, good for seventh in Vegas.
Andy Rautins was the top guy off the bench for the second-seeded Chicago Bulls in their 68-62 setback to the Miami Heat. Rautins played just over 20 minutes and tallied seven points in the loss.
Forwards James Southerland and Demetris Nichols both saw court time for the Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks, respectively, but neither registered points. The top-seeded Warriors earned a 79-76 comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks, while the Bucks fell 72-68 to the Los Angeles Lakers.
