The Syracuse men's basketball team returned to campus on August 15 to begin work for its upcoming four exhibition game summer trip to Canada.
Seniors Baye Moussa Keita and C.J. Fair were available to media on Thursday afternoon at the Carmelo K. Anthony Center before SU's first summer practice.
"We are just getting ready because we have a pretty good group of freshmen, but we just need to get that chemistry," said Keita, prior to practice. "They're a really good group of freshman, so we just need to get our chemistry, get our offense going and get ready on defense."
Ten players participated in the initial workout. In addition to Keita and Fair, junior Rakeem Christmas, redshirt sophomore Trevor Cooney, sophomores DaJuan Coleman, Michael Gbinije, and Jerami Grant, and freshmen Tyler Ennis, B.J. Johnson and Ron Patterson were part of the initial practice.
"We're going to have a lot of new guys out there on the court, so we want to be able to play as a unit right from our first game," commented Fair, a national player of the year candidate. "I know this kind of trip will help not just the freshman, but the whole team."
The team leaves Syracuse on August 20 and will open up play at McGill University's Love Competition Hall in Montreal on August 21. SU will then match up with Bishops University for a contest at Champlain College the following night.
Waiting in Ottawa for games on August 23 and 24 are Carleton University and Ottawa University, respectively. The matchup with Carleton will take place at Scotia Bank Arena, home of the Ottawa Senators of the NHL, while the tilt against Ottawa will be played at Montpetit Hall.
