Four Receive Upstate Hall Call

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four Orange greats will be inducted into the Upstate New York Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 20 at The Links at Erie Village located in East Syracuse.

Syracuse University lacrosse alums Jamie Archer, LaVerne Doctor, Jeff McCormick and Casey Powell are among the eight individuals that make up the 2013 induction class. The others are Bob Elmer, Chris Lindsey, Dan Sheehan and Tom Gravante.

The head coach of Jamesville-DeWitt High School's highly successful boys' lacrosse team, Archer played for the Orange from 1990-93 and earned All-America honors as a junior and senior. He won two NCAA championships (1990, 1993) and led the team in assists for three straight years (1991-93). Archer is eighth all-time at Syracuse with 108 career helpers.

Doctor played three years for the Orange (1967-69). He captained the squad in 1967 and 1968 and led the team in scoring both seasons. Doctor tallied 39 points in 1967 and had 54 the following year.

McCormick was a three-time All-American (1981-83) defenseman and captained the Orange's first NCAA championship team in 1983. He was also instrumental in bringing the 2012 feature film 'Crooked Arrows' to the silver screen, serving as movie's executive producer.

Powell earned All-America honors four times with the Orange (1995-98), including three first-team nods. He twice was the winner of the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the USILA Player of the Year (1997, 1998) and he finished his career with a school-record 287 points (158 goals, 129 assists).

With the enshrinement of Archer, Doctor, McCormick and Powell, the number of inductees with ties to Syracuse University in the Upstate New York Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame is now 23.
