SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Syracuse lost its second game in a row at home on Sunday, losing 1-0 to No. 9 Wake Forest at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange falls to 4-7-1 on the season and 4-4-1 at home.
Wake Forest (8-2-1, 3-2-1 ACC) scored the lone goal of the match just before the 10th minute when Megan Curan kicked one from the right side of the field, setting up Riley Ridgik in front of the goal. She headed it in, getting it just past the fingers of SU goalie Brittany Anghel in the left corner of the goal.
The Orange nearly scored late in the game when Wake Forest's goalie Aubrey Bledsoe almost stepped past the goal line while saving a shot by Taylor Haenlin.
"I thought we worked hard, I thought we were organized and I thought there was a lot more communication on the field," said SU head coach Phil Wheddon It was a solid 90-minute performance, we just didn't get the result."
Wake Forest had five corners and SU were awarded two corner opportunities and two free kicks in the contest. Anghel made two saves for the Orange while Bledsoe made three for the Demon Deacon.
Syracuse will travel to Pittsburgh for its next match on Sunday, October 6.
