Twelfth Man Key to Victory Over Clemson

The ACC opener is on the horizon and fans are invited to come to the Carrier Dome and be the 12th man on Saturday, October 5 when the Orange takes on the Clemson Tigers at 3:30 p.m. (ABC/ESPN2).
Tickets for the Clemson game are available starting at $29. They can be ordered online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. For $75 fans can take advantage of the Tops Family Four Pack, which includes two adult tickets, two youth tickets, a $5 concession voucher and one Skytop parking pass.
Â
"The biggest thing is making the 12th man ever-present throughout the course of the game and get that place rockin'. That is going to be a big key to our victory," Head coach Scott Shafer said. "When the Dome is shaking it makes it very difficult for a quarterback because he has the pressure of the defense coming but he also has the pressure of communication problems because it gets so loud, and that's what we challenge our 12th man to do."
Â
At halftime on Saturday, legendary Orange quarterback Don McPherson (1984-87) will have his jersey retired and number nine will hang in the rafters of the Carrier Dome.
Â
A College Football Hall of Famer, McPherson led the Orange to an 11-0-1 season and a No. 4 final ranking as a senior in 1987. He was second in the Heisman Trophy balloting to Tim Brown of Notre Dame that season and won a slew of individual awards, including the Davey O'Brien Award and Maxwell Award.
Â
"What a great honor for [Don McPherson] and what a great honor for the institution to have him come and enjoy this experience in a great game-day environment," Shafer said. "What a classy guy too. He's a first-football player but even off the field they don't get any better than Don MacPherson. We're happy to have him coming this weekend."
Â
Fans are encouraged to come to the game early to ensure that they are in their seats for kickoff. Gates open at 2 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. start.
