LOS ANGELES - Syracuse basketball student-athletes senior C.J. Fair and freshman Tyler Ennis are two of 25 players included on the 2013-14 John R. Wooden Midseason Top 25 announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Jan. 22.
SU is one of just four schools with multiple players represented on the list. Duke Jabari Parker, Rodney Hood), Arizona (Nick Johnson, Aaron Gordon) and Michigan State (Keith Appling, Adreian Payne) are the other three. Arizona, Syracuse and Michigan State are currently ranked 1-2-3 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll.
Fair, the Preseason Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, currently leads the Orange with 16.8 points and is second with 5.8 rebounds per game. His scoring average ranks sixth in the conference. The senior forward has scored in double-figures in 17-of-18 contests and reached the 20-point plateau a squad-best five times, including a career-high 26 against Fordham.
Ennis, a three-time ACC Rookie of the Week, is one of four Syracuse players to average double-digits in scoring, coming in with 11.9 per outing. He is fourth in the nation with a 4.13 assist-to-turnover ratio, sixth with 48 steals and ranks second in the ACC with 5.5 assists per game. Against California in the EA Sports Maui Invitational, Ennis dropped in a career-best 28 points. The freshman guard is one of just five rookies selected to the list.
The ACC leads the way with five selections to the midseason list while the Pac-12 and Big Ten have four apiece. The Big 12 and SEC each boasted three players and The American was the only other conference to be represented by at least two players.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the midseason list and the official voting ballot, which will consist of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA. The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation's top 10 players, will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament.
