TAMPA, Fla.— Syracuse defensive tackle Jay Bromley has accepted an invitation to play in the 89th East-West Shrine Game, to be played on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. at 4 pm (NFL Network). The annual East-West Shrine Game's alums include a long list of football greats, most notably 62 NFL Hall of Famers and 52 active players on NFL rosters.
"The East-West Shrine Game has always fielded players among college football's best," said East-West Shrine Game Executive Director Harold Richardson. "With all 32 NFL teams represented by GMs, coaches and scouts during game week, our players have the terrific opportunity to showcase their talents and get their first glimpse of life in the NFL … 'Just Like on Sunday.'"
Bromley comes off an extremely successful senior campaign in which he was named to three different All-ACC teams, including the ACC Coaches team, the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association team and Phil Steele's College Football Postseason list. He belongs to one of just four senior classes in SU history to have won three bowl games and he played in all of them, including the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl as a true freshman.
A leader of the defensive line, he amassed 10 sacks this season, the most by an SU interior lineman since 1987. He also had three forced fumbles and totaled 42 tackles. He was part of a defense that ranks 14th in the nation in third-down defense (.335, 63-188) and 18th in tackles for loss, averaging 7.2 per game including 2.85 sacks per contest.
Fans can watch the game on NFL Network, listen live on the East-West Shrine Game Radio Network or attend the game by purchasing tickets online at www.shrinegame.com.
