Head coach Scott Shafer reviews Wake Forest and looks ahead to the Tigers
The Orange accomplished its goal of starting the second half of the season 1-0 by defeating Wake Forest on Saturday, now the Orange face another tough road challenge against No. 21/20 Clemson.
Head coach Scott Shafer was pleased with his team's defensive performance on Saturday, holding the Demon Deacons to 170 total yards and just seven points, while scoring two touchdowns of its own courtesy of Robert Welsh's 42-yard interception return and Micah Robinson's 51-yard fumble return.
"Two great plays, but let's not forget Brandon Reddish stripped the ball on the one and Dyshawn Davis forced the interception on the other," Shafer said. "From the secondary all the way up to those two guys who scored the touchdowns, just great team defense. Really, great calls by coach Bullough as well."
Next the Orange will square off with another team with a strong defense, as the team heads to Clemson – a team that ranks fourth in the nation in sacks and is allowing just 20 points per game.
"This front seven is probably as good as anyone we've played this year and we've played some good ones," Shafer said. "Comparing them to Notre Dame and Florida State as well as Louisville, because those teams had unbelievable front sevens, they're right in the mix to be the best one. So, it'll be a great challenge for kids, our coaches and we're all looking forward to it."
