Martin Hehir and Emma Russell are this week’s Scholar-Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This week's scholar-athletes of the week are Martin Hehir of cross country and Emma Russell of field hockey. Hehir, a biology major, and Russell, an economics major, are recognized for their success in the classroom and on their respective fields of play.
Â
Hehir and his squad are coming off a weekend in which they took home the crown from perhaps, one of the toughest cross country races in the country. Â No. 6 men's cross finished the Wisconsin Adidas Invite for the second time in program history and displayed solid pack-running in the process as five SU harriers finished within the top-25. Hehir led the pack with a seventh place finish, clocking in at 23:55.
Â
Next on the slate for cross country is its final race prior to the ACC Championship. The team will take a short trip to Cornell University for the John Reif Memorial on Friday, October 24.
Â
Saturday, Russell will lead her field hockey team against Duke in its final ACC matchup of the regular season at 1:00 PM at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Â
Russell is in the midst of her best season yet as a member of the Orange with 10 goals this season and a .222 shot percentage with 76% of her shots peppering the opposing goalie. The junior, forward out of Enniskerry, Ireland also has two assists on the season.
