SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 4 Syracuse University field hockey team looks to advance to its first national final when it plays No. 1 North Carolina in the national semifinals on Friday afternoon in College Park, Md. Syracuse and North Carolina are scheduled to meet a 2 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on the campus of the University of Maryland.

Syracuse advanced to its third Final Four in program history thanks to wins against No. 17 Boston University and No. 6 Penn State. It marks the second time in the past three seasons that the Orange has made it to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

No. 3 Connecticut and No. 12 Albany will meet in the second semifinal contest at 4:45 p.m. The winners will advance to the national final on Sunday. The national champion will be decided at 1 p.m.

Five Named All-Mideast Region
Five members of the Syracuse University field hockey team earned 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region accolades. Four Orange student-athletes were named to the first team, while one was recognized on the second team.

Graduate student forward Kati Nearhouse, junior midfielder Alyssa Manley, junior forward Emma Russell, and freshman midfielder Lieke Visser all received First Team All-Mideast Region honors. Senior back Jordan Page was named to the second team.

For the second straight year, Manley, Page, and Russell all earned All-Mideast Region accolades. After sitting out the 2013 season, Nearhouse made her third all-region team in her collegiate career. Visser became the first Syracuse freshman to earn all-region honors since 2012, as well.

The Orange and North Carolina will meet for the 10th time on Friday afternoon in the national semifinals. It marks the second time in the past two three years that the two will meet in the Final Four. In 2012, Syracuse suffered a 6-1 setback against North Carolina in the national semifinals.

North Carolina owns a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Orange took their last meeting, defeating UNC, 3-2, in overtime in the ACC Championship semifinals.
