SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Forward Chris Nanco is currently in Sunrise, Fla. for a week of training with the Canadian U-20 National Team. The training camp is the final opportunity for Nanco to state his case for being included on Team Canada's 20-man roster for next month's CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
Â
Nanco is one of four college players attending the camp, which began on Dec. 11 and continues to Dec. 17. Duke's Brody Huitema, Oregon State's Nolan Wirth and Tulsa's Quinton Duncan are also in the player pool.
Â
Nanco is no stranger to the world stage. He previously led Canada's U-17 squad to the silver medal at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship and an appearance in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Earlier this year, he represented Team Canada at the prestigious Dale Farm Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.
Â
Syracuse's second-leading scorer in 2014, Nanco started 19-of-21 matches and finished with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Â
Canada opens the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship on Jan. 10 against Haiti. The Canadians are in Group B and they will have five games to attempt to qualify for their first FIFA U-20 World Cup since 2007. Â
