PREGAME READING
What to Watch For – Syracuse (23-0, 10-0)
1. Syracuse is one of only two undefeated teams in Division I. The other is Wichita State from the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers take on Southern Illinois on Tuesday night.
2. Senior C.J. Fair needs one more point to move into the top 25 on Syracuse's all-time scoring list. Fair led the Orange with 19 points against Clemson, giving him 1,486 career points. With his next point, Fair will move into a tie for 25th place with Louis Orr (1976-80) on the career scoring leader list. He could move up the chart quickly as he needs just four points to tie Dwayne "Pearl" Washington (1983-86) for 24th and 10 points to tie Rudy Hackett (1972-75) and Dale Shackleford (1975-79) for the 22nd spot.
3. Syracuse's defense has been one of its strengths all season and it now ranks as one of the toughest in the nation. The Orange is allowing just 58.4 points per game, which ranks seventh in the nation. In addition, Syracuse is 13th in steals with 201 and ranks eighth in turnover margin (5.0).
What to Watch For – Pittsburgh (20-4, 8-3)
1. Pittsburgh defeated Virginia Tech 62-57 in double overtime on Saturday for its second consecutive victory. The Panthers are now 20-4 overall and are in a tie for third place in the ACC standings with an 8-3 league record.
2. Senior Lamar Patterson leads Pittsburgh and ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. Redshirt senior Talib Zanna also averages double figures in scoring, contributing 12.5 points per game. Zanna leads the Panthers on the boards, pulling down 7.6 rebounds per game, which rank fifth in the ACC.
3. Jamie Dixon is in his 15th season at Pittsburgh and 11th as the head coach. He has guided the Panthers to a record of 282-90. Dixon earned national coach of the year honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series with Pittsburgh, 64-39. The Orange has won three of the last four meetings after the Panthers won five straight against SU from 2007-11. Earlier this season freshman Tyler Ennis led a group of four Orange players in double figures in scoring with 16 points to guide Syracuse to a 59-54 victory against Pittsburgh in the Carrier Dome.
