OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Syracuse senior forward C.J. Fair is one 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award for men's basketball, announced by the organization on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Fans can head on over to the Senior CLASS Award website and vote for Fair now through March 24.
Fair currently ranks sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 16.8 points per game average and is second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per outing. The ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 3, Fair has posted double-figure scoring in 21-of-23 games this season. Against Duke on Feb. 1, he recorded a career-high 28 points in helping the Orange to a 91-89 victory versus the Blue Devils.
Last month, the Baltimore native was placed on both the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch lists. Fair, the Preseason ACC Player of the Year, was also selected as a Naismith Trophy preseason candidate.
Off the court, Fair is pursuing a degree in child and family studies in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Fair has been active in the local community since beginning his four-year career at Syracuse, donating his time to the Make a Wish Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club.
Student-athletes eligible for the award must be an NCAA Division I senior while excelling in four areas – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.Â
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in October. Fans votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winners. The winners will be announced and recognized during the 2014 NCAA Men's Final Four and NCAA Women's Final Four.
