
Christmas and Bullard Take Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Junior center Rakeem Christmas and senior guard Phylesha Bullard of the Syracuse basketball teams claimed this week's Orange Scholar-Athlete titles in time for their games at the Carrier Dome this week. Christmas and the men's team play their next-to-last regular season home game on Wednesday, Feb. 19 against Boston College at 7 p.m. and Bullard and the women's team play Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Christmas is the third-leading Orange rebounder, averaging 4.7 boards per game and is coming off an impressive performance against North Carolina State in which he recorded his first career double-double with 14 points (one shy of his career high) and a personal-best 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Christmas is a member of the College of Visual and Performing Arts as a communications and rhetorical studies major.

Bullard has played in 20 games this season and has contributed 2.3 points per game and 1.5 rebounds per game off the bench. Her best performance of the season was against Dartmouth in which she scored a career-high nine points. Her best defensive performance was against No. 12/11 Texas A&M when she recorded a career-high four steals and three defensive boards. Bullard is a member of the School of Information Studies as an information management and technology major.
