The need for the Syracuse 2014 National Letter of Intent Class was clear to head coach Scott Shafer and his staff -- character and athleticsm were the focus. The result: Eighteen NLI signees who served as team captains, and 25 student-athletes from 11 states, many of whom play multiple positions on the field.
"Our focus for this class was, one, to find a group of young men who were of character and fit the mold of what we're looking for at Syracuse," said head coach Scott Shafer. "Second, we wanted to do a really good job of having balance across the board. Our coaches did a nice job putting together a board that was deep and that adhered to the things we were focused on, and that's finding high-character kids who can play the game and have great respect for truly being a student-athlete.
"We wanted to find kids with leadership qualities. Eighteen of our kids were captains in high school and of those 18, we had four or five that were multi-year captains. I feel really strong about this class and I'm really excited and proud of the way our coaches and support staff went about finishing this class off, especially in these last two weeks, holding on to kids that were getting bombarded by a lot of people."
The 2014 NLI class includes quarterback Alin Edouard, wide receivers Jamal Custis, Adly Enoicy, Steve Ishmael and KJ Williams, running back Ervin Philips, offensive linemen Aaron Roberts and Denzel Ward, defensive linemen Jalen Harvey, Kayton Samuels and Chris Slayton, linebackers Parris Bennett, Zaire Franklin, Colton Moskal and Jonathan Thomas, and defensive backs Antwan Cordy, Lamar Dawson, Juwan Dowels, Naesean Howard, Cordell Hudson, Treevon Prater and Rodney Williams. This group joins January enrollees wide receiver Corey Cooper, quarterback A.J. Long and defensive tackle Wayne Williams.
The Orange begin Spring football on March 18 and conclude with the annual Spring game on April 19.
All Orange fans are invited to place a deposit for 2014 Syracuse football season tickets, which start at $99, or purchase a three-game package that includes games against Villanova, Florida State and a third game of the fan's choice ($125 per package).
