Waiters, Carter-Williams Selected To 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge
Carmelo Anthony – During the week, Anthony reached a milestone of 19,000 points scored in his career, becoming the sixth fastest player in NBA history to do so. Anthony and the Knicks had their four-game win streak snapped against the defending champion Miami Heat on Saturday. The 2014 All-Star, who averaged 30.3 points and six rebounds per game during the week, has now reached the 20-point plateau in his last 12 outings. Athony also shot the ball well from beyond the arc, finishing at 47.4-percent (9-19) in the three games.
Michael Carter-Williams – Carter-Williams was one of nine rookies selected to the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge which will be played Friday, Feb. 14 during the NBA All-Star weekend. In three games last week, Carter-Williams averaged 16 points and 5.3 assists. That included a 10-point, seven-assist and five-rebound performance at Boston as the 76ers won at the wire.
Dion Waiters – Waiters was one of nine sophomores selected to the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge which will be played Friday, Feb. 14 during the NBA All-Star weekend. He netted 21 points in a loss to New York and followed that up with 19 points and four assists as the Cavs fell at Houston.
Wes Johnson – Johnson played 38 minutes off the bench on Wednesday night against Minnesota and nearly recorded a douoble-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time in the past eight games the forward reached double figures. The nine rebounds was also Johnson's third highest amount this season.
Scoop Jardine – In a 1-3 week with the 66ers, Jardine averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 points per outing. He scored a season-high 10 points against Iowa and distributed a season-best six assists at Rio Grande.
Arinze Onuaku – Onuaku helped Canton to a pair of wins last week, notching two double-doubles while just barely missing out on a third. In a against Fort Worth, he had 10 points and 10 rebounds. The big-man followed that up with a nine-point, 13 rebound effort in the return trip to Fort Worth. Against Austin, Onuaku had arguably his best game of the season with 20 points and a season-high 16 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. It was his fourth 20-point performance of the campaign.
James Southerland – In a split weekend with Idaho, Southerland averaged eight points and six rebounds for the Defenders. His best game of the two came in the opening victory when Southerland went for nine points and seven rebounds.
Fab Melo – Melo saw is production increase in his second week with the Texas Legends. In a win against Rio Grande, the center recorded 10 points and a block then had four blocks and three points in the second game against Rio Grande to close out the weekend.
Paul Harris – Harris registered his third double-double in four games as SLUC Nancy earned the victory against Asvel. Coming off season-highs in points and rebounds, Harris scored 19 points and bested his season-best rebouding total with 12 boards.
Brandon Triche - Triche had his second-highest scoring output of the season against Forli with 28 points on 9-16 shooting. He was 4-of-6 from long range,which is the most three's the guard has made all year. Triche also tied a season-high with three steals.
Kris Joseph – Joseph exploded for a season-high 29 points in a 20-point win over Roanne on Saturday. He was extremely effecient from the floor shooting 8-of-11 overall and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Joseph also pulled down six rebounds in the win.
