PREGAME READING
What to Watch For – Syracuse (22-0, 9-0)
1. Syracuse is one of only two undefeated teams in Division I. The other is Wichita State from the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers take on Northern Iowa on Saturday night.
2. Trevor Cooney's performance against Notre Dame was one for both the Syracuse and ACC record books. Cooney was 11-for-15 from the floor, including 9-for-12 from three-point range, for a career-high 33 points. He is the fourth Syracuse player to hit nine three-pointers in a game, tying the school record shared by James Southerland (Arkansas, 2012-13), Andy Rautins (Coppin St., 2008-09), and current assistant coach Gerry McNamara (BYU, 2005-06). In addition, Cooney is now tied for third on the ACC's record list for three-pointers in a game.
3. The Orange recorded 16 assists on 21 field goals against Notre Dame. Freshman Tyler Ennis led the way with eight helpers. He leads the squad with 125 assists this season. His 5.7 assists per game lead the ACC and rank 28th in the nation.
What to Watch For – Clemson (15-6, 6-3)
1. Clemson defeated Georgia Tech, 45-41, on Tuesday for its second consecutive victory. The Tigers are now 15-6 overall and 6-3 in ACC play, which is good for fifth place in the league standings.
2. Syracuse will face one of the toughest defenses in the ACC on Sunday. The Tigers allow just 55.0 points per game, the lowest total in the league. Clemson also ranks second in the ACC in field goal percentage defense (.378) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.270).
3. K.J. McDaniels ranks in the top 10 in the ACC in scoring and rebounding. He leads the Tigers' offense, averaging 16.3 points per game, which rank eighth in the ACC. He also leads Clemson on the boards, pulling down 7.0 per game, which rank ninth in the conference.
THE SERIES
Clemson has won both of the previous meetings between the two schools. The Tigers defeated the Orange, 78-67 on Dec. 2, 1960. More recently, the squads met in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NIT in Clemson, S.C. Syracuse used a 25-9 run to nearly erase a 17-point deficit, but couldn't complete the comeback as Clemson recorded a 74-70 victory to advance to the NIT semifinals in Madison Square Garden.
BRING ON THE BOOKS
The United Way of Central New York's Success By 6 will host its 16th annual "Bring on the Books" book drive beginning with Sunday's game. SU Literacy Corps volunteers will help to collect new and gently used books and monetary donations at the Dome starting when the gates open until tipoff at 6 p.m.
