GREENSBORO, N.C. - Following a perfect 2-0 week in leading the Syracuse tennis team to an upset of nationally-ranked No. 25 Florida State, senior Maddie Kobelt was chosen by the Atlantic Coast Conference as the women's tennis Player of the Week.
With the recognition, Kobelt becomes the first Syracuse tennis student-athlete to be honored by the ACC.
Against the Seminoles, despite the Orange losing the doubles point, Kobelt and her partner freshman Valeria Salazar won 8-5 at first doubles to improve to 3-1 in the ACC. The only loss came at the hands of the seventh-ranked Virginia tandem of Julia Elbaba and Rachel Pierson.
Â
The New Albany, Ohio native also cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the first court to help set the tone for Syracuse in singles action as SU took 4-of-6 matchups, including the final three finishes to rally and defeat the Florida State. Since entering league play, Kobelt is 4-1 in the ACC. That record includes a win over Virginia Tech's ranked Francesca Fusinato, while the only loss is to No. 4 Julia Elbaba of Virginia.
Â
With eight wins so far on the 2014 campaign, Kobelt is up to 97 career victories and is just three shy of becoming the 30th member of the Century Club at Syracuse.
