BOSTON – The Syracuse duo of senior C.J. Fair and freshman Tyler Ennis were each placed on the Lute Olson All-America team, announced by the organization on March 27.
Of the 25 student-athletes selected to the squad, Fair and Ennis are just one of five sets of teammates to be represented on the list. Wichita State (Ron Baker, Cleanthony Early), Iowa State (Melvin Ejim, DeAndre Kane), Arizona (Aaron Gordon, Nick Johnson) and Michigan State (Adreian Payne, Gary Harris) all had two players apiece on the team as well.
For Fair, the honor is his fourth postseason All-America nod, after being named Second Team All-America by USA Today, U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Fair led the Orange in his senior campaign with 16.5 point per game and was a close second with 6.4 rebounds per contest. He scored in double-figures in 32-of-34 outings and posted four double-doubles.
Ennis picked up his fifth All-America award, with two coming as a Freshman All-America by the NABC and USBWA. He was also an USA Today All-Amer4ica Second Team and College Sports Madness All-America Fourth Team selection. The dynamic guard ranked second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game to go along with team best averages of 5.5 assists and 2.1 steals. Ennis was the first freshman in Atlantic Coast Conference history to lead the league in both assists and steals.
The 25 student-athletes that earned All-America status are finalists for the 2013-14 Lute Olsen award. The award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named to the All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year honors.
The winner of the 2014 Olson award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 4 in Dallas, Texas, the site of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
