TRACK CONTINUES CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON AT IC4A, ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Syracuse track and field team will travel to Boston, Mass. this weekend to compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, hosted by Boston University, at the Track and Tennis Center. The prestigious event, open to institutions in the northeast, will begin on Friday, March 7 at 4 p.m. with the multi-event competition and conclude on Sunday, March 9 in the late afternoon with the awards ceremony.

Last weekend, the Orange competed in its first-ever ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship in Clemson, S.C. In the overall team competition, the women took tenth place with a total of 32 points and the men placed 12th with a total of 17 points.

Shaina Harrison was the top finisher for the women's team, taking second place in the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 7.37 seconds. Sarah Pagano led the distance squad and scored nine team points by placing fifth in the 3,000-meter and fourth in the 5,000-meter. The women's distance medley relay, including Sydney Leiher, Rebecca Robinson, Molly Malone, and Haley Cutright, captured fifth place to contribute four points.

The men's competition was highlighted by an impressive showing by Donald Pollitt and Freddie Crittenden in the 60-meter hurdles, who placed third and fifth, respectively, to earn ten points toward the team score. Other point contributors included junior Martin Hehir with a fourth place finish in the 5,000-meter and Jaquan Holland with an eighth place finish in the 60-meter dash.

Last year at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, Jaquan Holland set the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.09 seconds to earn third place. The women's distance medley of Margo Malone, Sabrina Cammock, Beth Wright, and Brenna Symmoniak captured the IC4A/ECAC title with a time of 11:38.35. Senior Sarah Pagano took second place in the women's 5,000-meter, senior Sa'De Lewis finished fifth in the women's 60-meter hurdles, and sophomore Shaylyn Tuite finished seventh in the women's 3,000-meter. Senior Reed Kamyszek took sixth place in the men's 3,000-meter run and sophomore Dan Lennon took eighth place in the men's 5,000-meter run.

The women's team finished in eighth place with a total of 24 points and the men's team tied for 24th place with a total of ten points. The University of Connecticut swept both the men's and women's team titles with 104 points and 60.5 points, respectively.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is the NCAA's largest conference, with over 33 percent of the NCAA's membership. This year at the indoor track and field championship, both the men's IC4A Championship and the women's ECAC Championship will include 60 institutions each, most located in the northeast. The historical meet dates back to 1923.
