Jeremi Wilkes will head back to his home state of Florida to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is one of seven Orange to join an NFL team this spring.
Wilkes, a strong safety, recorded 36 tackles last season including 1.5 for a loss. He had an interception in the first game of the season against Penn State, which he returned 21 yards. Wilkes has played every game over the last four years and started in 31 throughout his career. In 2012, he recorded the fifth-most tackles on the team, the most among defensive backs, totaling 61 including 47 on his own.
Wilkes was a member of a senior class that won three bowl games in four years, helping restore the Orange's winning tradition. SU defeated an opponent from one of the five major conferences in FBS in each of the three bowl wins, one of just nine schools to accomplish the feat.
Jay Bromley was picked in the 3rd round by the New York Giants, the first defensive tackle to be selected since Arthur Jones in 2010 and the highest drafted since Ted Gregory in 1988, who was taken 26th overall in the first round by the Denver Broncos. He will join two former teammates, Ryan Nassib and Justin Pugh, who were selected by the Giants in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Marquis Spruill was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round, the first linebacker to be selected since Doug Hogue in the 2011 NFL Draft and was the first Orange drafted by Atlanta since Quinn Ojinnaka was selected in 2006. He will be joined by fellow SU team captain Jerome Smith, who signed as a free agent with the Falcons following the Draft.
Keon Lyn (Indianapolis Colts), Ri'Shard Anderson (Tennessee Titans) and Macky MacPherson (Philadelphia Eagles) have also agreed to terms with NFL teams.
The 2014 Orange kick off the season on August 29 against Villanova in the Carrier Dome. Season tickets, which start at $99, and the three-game package that includes Villanova, Florida State and a third home game in the Dome of the fan's choice ($125 per package) are available now online (www.Cuse.com), by phone (888-DOMETIX), at Destiny USA kiosks and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20+), with prices as low as $10 each, are available for all home games by calling the Ticket Sales office (443-3212).
To celebrate the excitement for the season-opener against Villanova, Orange Head Coach Scott Shafer introduced the 'Next Fan Up' program. Shafer is purchasing a ticket for every ticket purchased so fans can bring a friend to the game. The offer includes season tickets already purchased and is available through May 31, 2014. Tickets for the 'Syracuse Section' for the 2014 New York's College Classic vs. Notre Dame at MetLife Stadium are on sale now, starting at $80, via www.NYCollegeClassic.com, phone (888-DOMETIX, Option Zero), or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
