Harrison Sets School Record to Qualify For NCAAs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Shaina Harrison became the fourth Orange to qualify for the NCAA Championships, taking 10th place overall to earn a trip to Eugene, Ore. on Friday night. All three Syracuse competitors in the men's 110-meter hurdles advanced to the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Harrison ran a school-record setting time of 11.47 seconds to advance to the national meet, beating her previous personal record by a tenth of a second.
Freddie Crittenden ran the fastest race of his career to take sixth overall with a time of 13.80 seconds in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Donald Pollitt was not far behind, placing eighth in 13.83 seconds to continue on to the next round. Amadou Gueye made Syracuse three-for-three in the event, qualifying for the quarterfinals with a season-best time of 13.88 seconds. The three will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.a
Three SU student-athletes competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase but none were able to qualify for the national championships. MJ Erb finished 19th overall with a time of 8:51.74 and Joseph Whelan placed 36th in 9:07.78 in the men's race while Sydney Leiher took 44th with a time of 10:52.16.
On Thursday, Martin Hehir, Sarah Pagano and Margo Malone all qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run. Joel Hubbard also had a qualifying time on Thursday night, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the 1,500-meter run, set to be held on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Seven Syracuse student-athletes will compete on Saturday, the final day of competition at the East Preliams.
