Guard Tyler Ennis, who earned All-American honors during his freshman season at Syracuse, has been selected in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. Ennis was the 18th overall pick in the draft and is the 21st SU player taken in the first round.
The NBA Draft is being conducted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Phoenix also had the 14th overall pick in the draft and selected NC State product T.J. Warren, a forward.
Ennis started all 34 games for the Orange in his lone collegiate campaign. He helped guide Syracuse to a second-place regular-season finish in the ACC and to an NCAA Tournament berth. SU defeated Western Michigan before losing to Dayton in the third round of the NCAA Postseason.
He led the ACC in assist and steals average.
It marks the third straight year that Syracuse has had a guard taken in the first round of the draft. Dion Waiters was selected fourth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2012 and Michael Carter-Williams went to Philadelphia in 2013.
Phoenix has drafted Orange before, starting with Fred Saunders in 1974. The Suns took Marty Byrnes and Dale Shackleford in back-to-back drafts, in 1978 and 1979 respectively. Phoenix drafted Rafael Addison in 1986. The most recent Syracuse performer to play for the suns was Wesley Johnson, who played the 2012-13 in the desert and averaged 8.0 pionts and 2.5 rebounds.
