Seniors Sean Hickey and Cam Lynch honored for strength and conditioning regimen and results
Senior offensive tackle Sean Hickey and senior linebacker Cam Lynch are the latest Syracuse student-athletes to be honored for their strength and conditioning regimen and "freakish" results.
Hickey was selected to Bruce Feldman's Best 'Freak' at Every Position list on foxsports.com, which was announced on Monday, while Lynch made NFL.com's 14 for '14: Most Freakish Athletes in College Football in May.
Hickey, a 6-foot-5 offensive tackle who has started 26 consecutive games for the Orange, has benched 225 lbs. 41 times and has been clocked at 5.07 seconds in the 40-yard dash earning his spot on Feldman's list.
In addition to Lynch's 4.7 second 40-yard dash time and 620-pound squat, the linebacker's ability to do a standing backflip courtesy of a 36-inch vertical earned him praise from NFL.com writer Mike Huguenin. Lynch played in every game last season, recording 69 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble.
Hickey and Lynch and eight other Orange student-athletes who have been honored all trained with Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Performance Will Hicks, who began at Syracuse in 2000.
They joined defensive end Ryan LaCasse (2002-05), fullback Tony Fiammetta (2005-08), offensive lineman Ryan Bartholomew (2007-10), wide receiver Dorian Graham (2008-11), safety Shamarko Thomas (2009-12) and linebacker Marquis Spruill (2010-13), who all earned the 'freak' moniker in their time with the Orange from various media outlets.
Thomas was also selected as a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American as a senior. Linebacker Morlon Greenwood (1997-2000) and defensive end Dwight Freeney (1998-2001) previously received All-American honors from the NSCA.
