Junior punter Riley Dixon selected to the Ray Guy Award Watch List honoring the Punter of the Year
Syracuse junior punter Riley Dixon was one of 25 players who have been selected to the 2014 Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday. The award, which is presented by the Greater Augusta Sports Council, identifies the top collegiate punter annually.
Dixon finished the 2013 season ranked 16th in the nation for punting yards with 3,161, a total that was good for third all-time in a single-season for the Orange. He averaged 42.1 yards per punt, including 15 punts of more than 50 yards and had 21 punts downed inside of the 20-yard line.
Dixon is the second member of the Orange to be selected to the Ray Guy Award Watch List; joining Rob Long (2007-10), who was a semifinalist for the award in 2009 and was named to the watch list in 2010.
The Greater Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Ray Guy. The award was first presented in 2000.
The complete list of candidates for the award will be announced on Oct. 31, with the Ray Guy Award committee then paring down the list to 10 semifinalists, which will be announced Nov. 14.
The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN Dec. 11.
