Orange Hosts Connecticut in Home Opener Monday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse will take on the rv/-- Connecticut Huskies on Monday, Sept. 1 in its home opener. The Orange posted its first win of the season on the road against Albany on Friday, recording a 5-1 victory.

Admission to the game is free of charge. Fans who can't make it to the SU Soccer Stadium can watch the game on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

OFFENSE STEPS UP
The Orange offense led the team in its 5-1 victory against Albany. Sophomore forward Stephanie Skilton recorded two goals in the first 25 minutes for her second career multiple-goal game. Junior Erin Simon scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and freshmen Alex Lamontagne and Alexis Muraco both posted their first career goals. The five goals are the highest single-game total for Syracuse since it posted seven goals against Binghamton in 2003.

SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
Connecticut finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 11-9 and a 5-5 record in American Athletic Conference play. The team earned its way to the conference tournament semifinals where it lost to the University of South Florida, 4-1. UConn started its 2014 season with two wins against Hofstra and Navy, but suffered a 3-1 loss to Penn State in its last match.

THE SERIES
The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Orange, 18-1-0. Syracuse last faced the Huskies at the SU Soccer Stadium in 2012. Jackie Firenze's goal with 30 seconds left on the clock gave SU a 3-2 victory.

The Orange travels to Hamilton, N.Y. for the Colgate Nike Classic where it will take on the UMass-Lowell on Friday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. and Vermont on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
