
Orange Tie No. 9 Mercyhurst

Alysha Burriss' third period goal erased a late 1-0 deficit and the Syracuse hockey team (6-10-8, 4-2-4 CHA) tied No. 9 Mercyhurst 1-1 in the opening game of a weekend series on Friday afternoon.
Burriss' goal came as part of an Orange barrage in the third period, in which they out-shot the Lakers (16-4-3, 7-3-1 CHA) by a 9-4 margin in the period to keep pace in the CHA standings.
After a scoreless first period, Lauren Kilroy put the Lakers on the board nearly 11 minutes into the second period.
Burriss scored the equalizer with just over 10-minutes left in regulation. Danielle Leslie and Heather Schwarz were credited with the assists on the play.
Jenn Gilligan followed up her career-best 44 save effort last Sunday with 19 saves on Friday.
The tie is the 8th of the year for Syracuse, which is the most in the nation.
The Orange will play the series finale on Saturday at 2 p.m.
